OLYMPIA - The spring chinook season on the Snake River near Clarkston will not reopen to fishing, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced today.
WDFW issued an emergency rule today that closes spring chinook fishing on the Snake River from the intersection of Steptoe Canyon Road with Wawawai River Road on the north shore upriver about 12 miles to the Washington state line. That area was open to fishing two days a week (Sunday and Monday).
Fishery managers closed the fishery after determining the catch quota for spring chinook in the Snake River had been reached, said John Whalen, WDFW regional fish program manager.
Two other areas of the Snake River below Ice Harbor Dam and Little Goose Dam closed for spring chinook fishing May 15.
"This closure effectively marks the end of the season for spring chinook fishing on the Snake River," Whalen said.
