Action: Closes Marine Area 11 to all salmon fishing
Effective date: Dec. 1 through Dec. 31, 2022
Species affected: All salmon
Location: Marine Area 11 from the north tip of Vashon Island to the northernmost Tacoma Narrows Bridge
Reason for action: The current estimate of Chinook salmon harvest through Nov. 22 is 845 of the total encounter limit of 1,093 (77%), 690 of the total sublegal encounter limit of 732 (94%), and 216 of the total unmarked encounter limit of 256 (85%) set during the 2022 North of Falcon season setting process. WDFW fisheries managers anticipate that all encounter limits will be reached after the current short week opening, scheduled through Wednesday Nov. 30, 2022. Salmon fishing in Marine Area 11 will be closed for the remainder of the winter Chinook salmon season to stay within agreed to management thresholds.
Additional information: Year-round piers (Dash Point Dock, Les Davis Pier, Des Moines Pier, Redondo Pier, and Point Defiance Boathouse Dock) remain open daily under the following rules through Dec. 31.
Chinook salmon minimum size is 22". Other salmon, no minimum size. Daily limit two, including no more than one Chinook salmon.
